NOTES
A Neighbourhood Plan is a community-led framework for guiding the future development and growth of an area. It may contain a vision, aims, planning policies, proposals for improving the area or providing new facilities, or allocation of key sites for specific kinds of development.
Neighbourhood plans relate to the use and development of land and associated social, economic and environmental issues. It may deal with a wide range of issues like housing, employment, heritage and transport. A Neighbourhood Plan will be subject to examination and referendum and then form part of the Local Development Plan. This statutory status gives Neighbourhood Plans far more weight than some other local planning documents, such as parish plans, community plans and village design statements.
GIVEN THE ADDITIONAL PRESSURES THAT LOCAL AUTHORITIES ARE NOW UNDER FROM THE GOVERNMENT TO ALLOW LAND FOR DEVELOPMENT, IT IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN EVER THAT STONNALL HAS AN UP TO DATE NEIGHBOURHOOD PLAN TO GIVE SOME PROTECTION TO THE VILLAGE FROM A PLANNING PERSPECTIVE.
IT WILL ALSO HELP US TO PROTECT OUR ENVIRONMENT, HISTORIC BUILDINGS, GREEN SPACES, TREES, HEDGEGROWS, FOOTPATHS AND COMMUNITY ASSETS.
WORK DONE SO FAR BY THE VILLAGE GROUP:
-Obtained a Government Grant of £10,000 to meet all costs of producing the plan
-Held several (open to the public) Meetings in The Community Centre during 2024 and recently on 10th January 2025
-Held a Public Open meeting in The Village Hall 11th September 2024 (attendance c120 residents plus streamed live on TEAMS and Video)
-Two Village Surveys hand delivered in December 2024 to all households:
1)Housing Needs Survey received a magnificent 166 public responses
2)Community Survey received a record 181 public responses
-A Village open day was held on 21st January 2025 when 121 residents attended the Community Centre and commented upon the proposed revisions to the plan and also whether they felt the above survey results reflected their views.
-Social Media has been extensively used to advertise all meetings and events
-Posters advertising all meetings and giving information have regularly been placed in Stonnall Shops, both Pubs, The Community Centre, The Village Hall, on Telegraph Posts, Notice Boards throughout the Village area.
IT IS RECOGNISED TO BE A VITAL DEMOCRATIC RIGHT THAT ALL RESIDENTS ARE MADE AWARE OF MATTERS POTENTIALLY AFFECTING STONNALL AND HAVE OPPORTUNITY TO CONTRIBUTE THEIR OPINIONS.
