{"id":2033,"date":"2021-08-16T18:28:46","date_gmt":"2021-08-16T17:28:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/shenstone-staffs-gov-uk.stacktemp.com\/stonnall\/?page_id=2033"},"modified":"2021-08-16T18:28:46","modified_gmt":"2021-08-16T17:28:46","slug":"stitchers-to-the-rescue","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.shenstone-staffs.gov.uk\/stonnall\/stitchers-to-the-rescue\/","title":{"rendered":"<h1><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: 'arial black', sans-serif;\">Stitchers to the Rescue<\/span><\/h1>"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u201cStonnall Stitchers\u201d are a local, likeminded, needlecraft group comprising twelve people.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">We meet twice a month in the Village Hall to enjoy our favourite hobby &#8211; knitting, tapestry, cross stitch, crotchet, sewing projects \u2013 and you don\u2019t need to be an expert, we are happy to pass on our knowledge if you want to try something new, or help each other if we come unstuck. Tea, cakes and biscuits are also on the agenda!<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">2020 has been a funny old year for us as we haven\u2019t been able to meet since March\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">because of Covid restrictions, but we have kept in touch via email and have some\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">lovely pictures of our Lockdown projects.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">When the call came to help the NHS by producing bags for front line workers to use for washing uniforms at home, we were ready. These were large, pump-style bags\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">that could take a uniform folded flat ready to pop in the washing machine. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">We used\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">old pillow cases &#8211; linen cupboards and lofts were raided, friends were prevailed upon, and in a very short time there wasn\u2019t an old pillow case to be found in the village. Initially finished bags were distributed to the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, Birmingham, and Birmingham Children\u2019s Hospital, with any spares being sent where needed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">These were gratefully received and we were proud to help such a good cause. Listeners to Johnny Walker\u2019s Sounds of the Seventies show on Radio 2, may have heard him thank everyone in the country who had responded to the cry for help and it felt good to be part of it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">We are all looking forward to our first meeting in a while. So many meetings have\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">been cancelled and even our Christmas party is not happening. We are currently\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">planning an Easter gathering with chocolate eggs taking the place of sausage rolls\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">and mince pies. But who knows what will happen next, who could have predicted<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">what we have endured this year? As Charles Dickens wrote:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">It was the best of times, it was the worst of times,<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">It was the age of reason, it was the age of foolishness<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">As true of this year as when it was written. But community spirit has flourished and <\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">we all looked forward to our Thursday clapping for the key workers, which reminded us of the sacrifices they were making to keep us safe, and gave us the opportunity to see our neighbours \u2013 socially distanced of course!<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">As for Stitchers, we\u2019ll be there, needles threaded and at the ready for the next crisis, or just to get on with our latest project. Our usual meeting days are the first and third Monday in the month, 2 pm to 4 pm, in the Village Hall, but that depends on how the virus behaves and whether sufficient vaccinations are available for those who need them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Meanwhile, from all at Stonnall Stitchers, keep safe and healthy in 2021 \u2013 and don\u2019t forget to smile \u2013 that\u2019s infectious too!<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Ann Powell<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">admin@stonnall.net<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cStonnall Stitchers\u201d are a local, likeminded, needlecraft group comprising twelve people.
