Are you interested in finding out more about our local history or sharing your knowledge with like minded people? <\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Our new Local History Group will be meeting for the first time at the library on Wednesday 10th of January from 10.00am till 12.00 noon. Future meetings will be held on the second Wednesday of the month and everyone is welcome to turn up and join in<\/span>.<\/span> <\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Admiral Sir William Parker<\/strong> –  150th Anniversary of Shenstone\u2019s most celebrated inhabitant. Born Dec 1st 1781<\/span>
\n <\/span>
\nAs far as Shenstone folk are concerned, Admiral Sir William Parker, was the stellar celebrity of the early nineteenth century. <\/span>
\nHis one-time home, Shenstone Lodge, now a school, can be glimpsed as you drive along the Birmingham Road towards Mere Green. <\/span><\/p>\n

The pinnacle of his illustrious naval career was his appointment to Admiral of the Fleet<\/strong> in 1863, the highest rank in the British navy. At the time Queen Victoria <\/span>sent him a special message saying this promotion was<\/span> – \u201da well-earned reward for brilliant services\u201d.                                                                                              <\/i>Bronwen Ross<\/span><\/p>\n
