Subject: CCTV in taxi – consultation

Good afternoon,
We are consulting on whether the installation of CCTV systems within taxis should be mandatory or voluntary.

The current taxi policy allows drivers and operators to install CCTV on a voluntary basis and we are seeking views on whether this should become mandatory.

The purpose of a taxi and private hire vehicle CCTV system should be to provide a safer environment for the benefit of the driver and passengers by:

  • Deterring and preventing the occurrence of crime;
  • Reducing the fear of crime;
  • Assisting the Police in investigating incidents of crime;
  • Assisting insurance companies in investigating motor vehicle accidents.

We would really welcome views from parish councils in the district and wonder if could share the link to the online survey?

The consultation is open until 18 November 2021.

Kind regards
Zoë Roberts
