Subject: Urgent water works on A461 Walsall Road

Dear David
I have tried calling you this morning just to make you aware of impending urgent water works on the A461 Walsall Road.

South Staffs Water need to close the A461 to carry out work which involves a pumping station effluent pipe which has become blocked and despite efforts, they have not been able to clear it. The pumping station and its clean water supply to Lichfield is now in jeopardy hence the necessity for imminent works.

The closure, at the junction of Moat Bank will be a minimum of 7 days, possibly 12 days.

Our Network Management Unit were first made aware only at the end of last week and held a meeting with SSW and their contractor to discuss alternatives and options but unfortunately the solution kept coming back to a road closure.

The Council has requested extensive signage and SSW will undertake any communications the Council deems necessary, but a start date of the 25th October is what I believe they have proposed so you may start to receive enquiries about associated signage deployed on the network from today onwards.

We are awaiting further detail from our Network team regarding the traffic management arrangements which we can forward to you once received.

I’d be grateful for your thoughts on how best to keep the parish council informed, please feel free to give me a call when you have opportunity on 07807180260.

Kind regards
