Stonnall Football Club was reformed in 2005/ 2006 from a group of enthusiastic villagers and their friends. A friendly training session progressed into an application to join the Lichfield League.
For their first season (2005/ 2006), the team were placed in division 4; where they finished runners up and were consequently promoted to division 2.
In division 2, (2006/2007) they had a great season and were unbeaten, having won 18 games and drawing the other 2. This tremendous achievement got them promoted the Lichfield Premier league.
However, being in the Premier league for the 2007/2008 season proved too much, and they ended the season bottom but one, having really struggled against the cream of the Walsall and Lichfield areas. With such a disappointing finish they expected to be relegated, but because the team had made such a good effort, despite the overall result, they were asked to stay in the Premier league.
So for the 2008/2009 season they remained in the Premier league and achieved a very respectable 6th position.
The manager then departed together with several of the players, so the team were forced to accept relegation back to division 1 for the 2009/2010 season. With a new manager and players, the team found renewed strength and went on to finish a creditable 3rd. In addition they also reached the three, quarter finals and one semi final in local cup competitions.
The team play their home matches on Stonnall Playing Fields on Sunday mornings, where a regular group of visitors and supporters can also be seen. There is a genuine camaraderie among the team, who work together with the supporters to maintain the pitch during the season; by mowing, rolling and marking out as necessary and then re-turfing around the goal area in the close season. Visiting teams have commented on the quality of the field and the home team have expressed their appreciation in having the facility in the village.
There is also a social side, as the team have Fun days and Social events to raise money for local charities and the community.
