Shenstone Parish Council

Our duties and obligations are well defined in law. Town and Parish Councils may provide or maintain shelters, village halls, clocks, war memorials, playing fields, and playgrounds to name but a few.
Parish Councils must be notified of all planning applications and must be consulted on the making of certain byelaws. They may administer some local charities.

What we do
We own or act as Custodian Trustees on your behalf:

  • Little Aston Recreation Ground*
  • Stonnall Village Hall*
  • Stonnall Playing Fields*
  • Stonnall Pound
  • The Richard Cooper Room*
  • Shenstone Village Hall*
  • Shenstone Playing Fields*
  • The Lammas Land*
  • The Pavilions (formerly the Shenstone Sports and Social Club)*
  • The Shenstone Lawn Cemetery

All properties marked with an asterisk(*) are run by Management Committees on your behalf and are required to report back to the Annual Parish Meeting in April. Funds for supporting the committees come from four main sources:

  • local fundraising
  • charges for use
  • grants from external bodies
  • Shenstone Parish Council directly through grants and similar support.

We also, for all the villages:

  • represent the parish on planning matters at District level
  • manage the grass cutting contracts throughout the villages
  • manage some street cleaning functions and bus shelter cleaning
  • liaise with the police authority on matters of crime and police presence
  • liaise with the Highway Authority for traffic improvements
  • attempt to reduce the affects of the M6 Toll construction during the critical construction phase
