Residents of Aldridge / West Midlands (Walsall MBC area) – Pupils travelling to King Edwards VI or The Friary
In order to manage capacity, the morning journey on service 36 will not be commencing from Aldridge and will instead start from Stonnall. The service will therefore not be available to fare payers from Aldridge. Transport for West Midlands are the responsible Local Transport Authority for your area and so we have been in touch with them. TfWM are currently exploring with Diamond Bus funding additional capacity on route 35 which operates between Walsall and Lichfield via Aldridge, Shire Oak and Muckley Corner. Our recommendation would be to make use of this service – https://www.diamondbuses.com/west-midlands/bus-services/35-walsall/ . Diamond Bus are also looking to amend the 1538 from Lichfield Bus Station to serve King Edwards VI bus park. TfWM’s “back to school” information can be found at https://www.networkwestmidlands.com/plan-your-journey/back-to-school and any representations concerning transport provision within / to / from the West Midlands should be directed to TfWM for a response.
Residents of Staffordshire – Pupils travelling to King Edwards VI
Service 36 will not be made available to passengers travelling to King Edwards and in any event the afternoon journey does not align with the school day as the PM journey leaves Lichfield before King Edwards finish. Therefore, we recommend use of Diamond Bus 35 from the nearest available bus stop for travel to/from Lichfield. As mentioned above, Diamond are looking to re-route via King Edwards in the afternoon so that there is a convenient journey in both directions.
Residents of Stonnall – Pupils travelling to Friary Sixth Form
We will authorise Select Bus to sell season tickets for Stonnall pupils travelling to Friary Sixth Form which will guarantee a seat on Service 36 for this journey. Please note we can only offer seats in this scenario as to achieve this has required diversion of another minibus which will pick up a small number of entitled pupils from Stonnall to travel to Friary, which in turn will free up the required seats on service 36 for Stonnall / Friary Sixth Form Pupils. Select Bus will be asked to verify details of season ticket sales with us before tickets are released. Please could any of you in this category who haven’t already made contact with us do so, in order that we can free up the correct number of seats.

Alternative bus services are available to use, albeit they may not be your first choice of route. We recommend using www.travelinemidlands.co.uk to plan an a journey. Options will include: Diamond Bus 35, National Express 10A, Arriva 60 for travel to Lichfield. Arriva 825/826 provide links between Lichfield City Centre and Stafford Road for The Friary.
I hope that this assists in providing a travel option for each of the scenarios. I would reiterate that once the government relax social distancing requirements for public transport, we will be able to return services such as 36 to normal.
